The island’s extra virgin olive oil

The island’s extra virgin olive oil

Olive growing has been present on Monte Isola since ancient times. There are about 15,000 olive trees on the island: leccino, frantoio, pendolino and sbresa are the main cultivated varieties.

Due to the morphology of the land, the olive harvest here is particularly difficult. The olive trees, in fact, in most cases are perched on steep and steep terraces. Once harvested, the olives are placed in crates and immediately transported to the oil mill called “La masna de l’isola” for milling.

The oil obtained is golden yellow in color and has a fruity, slightly bitter and spicy aroma, which can be found in shops selling typical products on the island or at the farms.
