Local crafts - Wooden boats and the naèt
Cantiere Nautico Ercole Archetti
Since the middle of the last century, Cantiere Nautico Ercole Archetti has been a prestigious brand known and appreciated by the most demanding customers in the sector who seek craftsmanship combined with the certainty of cutting-edge technology. The passion and desire to improve in the construction of wooden boats, built entirely by hand, now also involves the latest generation of the family, with Andrea, Ercole’s son, now in charge of the shipyard, who at only 25 years of age has become the youngest master shipwright in Italy. Legend has it that in the 17th century, a master shipwright from Venice named Archetti took refuge in this area to escape prison. With him began the production of the naèt, a flat-bottomed fishing boat, which for centuries was the typical boat of Lake Iseo. The construction, repair and maintenance of boats takes place in a large workshop with an entrance on the main road of the hamlet of Peschiera Maraglio, in the municipality of Monte Isola. It still houses historic equipment from the 1970s and tools built by the owner himself, which are still in use today. The most popular model is the mahogany and larch wooden gozzo, but there are various models of different sizes, with interiors customised according to customer specifications. A popular destination for school trips and enthusiasts, the Archetti Shipyard is definitely a place to discover the craftsmanship of a Lombard excellence that, with wisdom and skill, has successfully crossed national and European borders, proving that Italian genius is always highly appreciated throughout the world.
