Less than thirty kilometers from Brescia, Monte Isola, which with its twelve square kilometers and a half is the largest lake island in Europe, is an ideal destination for a trip. Since on the island you can not travel with cars, the roads connecting the numerous villages – some in contact with Sebino (Peschiera Maraglio, Sensole and Carzano), others halfway up (Menzino, Siviano and Novale) , others on the sides of the mountain (Olzano, Masse, Senzano and Cure) constitute a privileged terrain for cycling.

Those who do not have it can hire it at Peschiera M. or Carzano, while those who own it can comfortably ferry it on public transport. From the small port of Peschiera Maraglio we start pedaling to the left on the “strada degli ulivi” observing the nearby islet of S. Paolo and soon reaching Sensole and then to Menzino.

Continuing towards Sinchignano, near the Church of S. Carlo, there is the possibility, turning right, to reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Ceriola; you have to travel about three kilometers of rather difficult climb and in some places you have to push the bike by hand. The last stretch to reach the Sanctuary is passable only on foot, but you can leave your bike in the town of Cure. The most tenacious will be rewarded by an exceptional panorama and can visit the Sanctuary.

If you prefer to continue, in a few minutes on the road from Sinchignano you will reach the village of Siviano, where the Town Hall is located.

Continuing you can admire the beautiful island of Loreto to the north and you will soon reach Carzano. Here every five years the famous festival of S. Croce takes place during which the streets of the town are embellished by thousands of colored paper flowers that have been prepared with great skill and patience in the previous months. Before thinking of the return ferry, lovers of good food (or those whose pedaling has appealed) should remember that on the island they will be able to taste succulent dishes of lake fish together with typical products of olive oil, of salami nostrano and sardines dried in the sun. After passing Carzano, the eastern side of the island is crossed along the lake and you will soon return to the port of Peschiera Maraglio.
